It’s the most wonderful time of the year. Shark Week!

Why do I like Shark Week? I like Shark Week mainly because it is an ENTIRE week dedicated to all things shark. Does any other animal have it’s own week and is it widely recognized by the masses? I think not!

Shark Week was started by The Discovery Channel in 1987. It’s a week long shark bonanza dedicated to shark education. I watch it mainly to see sharks gobble up lesser fish and to see “that guy” in a cage getting chomped at. Of course we get the usual shark survival info about blood in the water, punching sharks in the nose and how sharks are really lovable and misunderstood creatures.
Craig Ferguson from The Late Late Show is hosting this year’s Shark Week. We also get a Shark Cam which is really relaxing to look at. There is also live events on the Shark Cam hosted by Chris Wojcik.

Now to figure out what gifts to give during Shark Week: sharkskin suits, shark meat, shark-skinned shoes and belts? Sure, why not but let’s stipulate that you have have to catch and kill the shark yourself… with only a knife. For the rest of us go to the Shark Week Store. Happy Shark Week!

Find shark related programming all this week through August 7th on The Discovery Channel.

If Shark Week puts you in the mood for shark drama like the Jaws movies or Deep Blue Sea but you’ve seen those before and want something new to wet your appetite, keep a look out for Syfy’s Sharktopus. It’s still in production but you can see the trailer here:
