Anyone who regularly reads this blog knows that I thoroughly enjoyed the first part of  the sixth series of Doctor Who. The stories in the episodes in the series thus far have been cohesive, adventures, mysterious and sometimes even scary. I’m sure that I’ve cried and re-watched the episodes so many times that I may qualify for quality TARDIS alone time. Heck, I was so impressed by series six that I finally committed to watching classic episodes of Doctor Who.

Series 6, part 1 starts with ‘The Impossible Astronaut’ when The Doctor comes to America only to get shot by a mysterious astronaut rising out of a lake in Utah. Amy, Rory, and River’s devastation and grief is short lived when the meet The Doctor again alive and well at a diner. They go on an adventure to meet President Nixon while Amy confronts a mysteriously creepy alien. In ‘Day of the Moon’ the crew goes on a mission for President Nixon with former-FBI agent Canton to investigate the source of his creepy phone calls. After living on the edge with The Silence and a gun-toting regenerating little girl, the crew pause for a romp with pirates, a siren and a spaceship in ‘Curse of the Black Spot’. ‘The Doctor’s Wife’ is a Neil Gaiman written treat where Amy, Rory, and The Doctor experience the TARDIS in a new “sexy” way. ‘The Rebel Flesh’ starts with a high tech acid making facility manned by doppelgangers of real workers and ends in The Doctor getting duplicated. ‘The Almost People’ is a continuation of the doppelganger situation that escalated from an exercise in defining sentience to an all-out war between humans and “the gangers”. The end is a shocker that no one saw coming. ‘A Good Man Goes to War’ brings the entire first half of series together like a well-crafted masterpiece. We learn who the sliding-door-eye patch-lady is, we learn who River Song is and we see some old friends be heroes all for the greater good.
