Warehouse 13 has made it to season 3 and already has jumped into full gear with meaty stories. These meaty stories don’t weigh down the usual fun and antics that we have come to expect from WH13, it just makes the show better. This season has a new addition by the way of Aaron Ashmore as Steve Jinks who has also played Jimmy Olsen on Smallville. He gives the show another shot of youthfulness and he is the rational and calm counterpart to Allison Scagliotti’s Claudia Donovan. We meet him as an ATF agent when the WH13 crew trying to find Jimi Hendrix’s guitar. They bring him aboard the crew because he seems to have the power of knowing whether or not someone is telling the truth. It’s similar to Pete’s Spidey sense. Pete moped around about Micah not being on the team any more but they needed her help, she felt the thrill of the hunt and decided to join the team again.
Some of our old favorite guest stars return like Jaime Murray as HG Wells, CCH Pounder as Mrs. Frederic, Lindsay Wagner as Dr. Vanessa Calder, and Rene Auberjonois as Hugo Miller. High profile guest stars are starting to show up on Warehouse 13 such as Sasha Roiz from Caprica, Faran Tahir from the new Star Trek movie and Iron Man, Neil Grayston from Eureka, and Kate Mulgrew and Jeri Ryan from Star Trek: Voyager. Most of the episodes are stand-alone there is a major arc but it has been played down so much that it’s hardly noticeable. I like that the main arc is being handled with a light touch while we are enjoying the adventures of the WH13 crew.
One of my favorite episodes this season was ‘Don’t Hate the Player’. Neil Grayston guested and got himself and two other gamers stuck in a MMORPG via virtual reality goggles. There were more geeky references than in an average episode of WH13. If you watch regularly, you already know that the show already is filled with tons of geek references. This episode had pointy ears, dragons and trolls. It was fun and is why WH13 gets so much love and respect from its fans.
There have been rumors about a WH13 spinoff show starring the character HG Wells. She was in a recent episode ‘3… 2… 1…’ with guest star Gareth David-Lloyd who used to play Ianto on Torchwood. It looked like the beginnings of a Sherlock Holmes-styled steampunk show set in the 1800’s or so. It’s how Sanctuary used to feel. I’m not sure that I’m interested in a show like this but we’ll see.
Warehouse 13 airs Mondays at 9/8c on Syfy.
