I loved this film. It was fun. It was pretty and it was a lot of fun. There were some plot issues that are easily overlooked if you just didn’t care. Why try to make sense out of a cyber-fantasy world? The effect of Jeff Bridges as a young CLU was distracting in the uncanny valley way but also brilliant because it had never been done quite like this before.
I love the 80’s and TRON: Legacy dripped of that decade but somehow managed to be modern at the same time. It also felt like the Matrix movies but the Matrix movies also felt like Tron to me so there was a bit of movie style circle-jerking going on.
Jeff Bridges managed to keep the spirit of Flynn from the first movie. Garrett Hedlund as Sam Flynn worked. He didn’t sell me in the trailers but he really shined in the movie.
For more, we had a rather detailed and quite hilarious discussion about Tron: Legacy on the Sci-Fi Party Line Podcast. We also talk special effects, uncanny valley, plot… or lack therof, set, action, costumes, 3D and more! Enjoy Daft Punk’s music in the background as well as other original TRON sound effects.
