All it took was one episode and I was done with The Event. It tried too hard to be too many things right from the beginning. One reviewer described it: “If Lost and 24 had a baby, it would be The Event“. The comparison would be complete if they added; “The Event is also as if Heroes, 4400 and FlashForward were play cousins, bastard brothers and inbred.
The first episode introduced characters, had flash backs, murder and an assassination attempt on the President with an airplane that ultimately disappeared into thin air. All of this happened in the first episode and it still managed to bore me. The Event tried WAY too hard to fill the Lost void. I think the industry needs to give this style/genre a break. I do like the actors in this show. Heck the first episode had Tony Todd in it. If Tony MF Todd doesn’t pull me in, nothing will.
I’m now taking bets on the demise of this show. I have $20 bucks on this show getting canceled at the end of the season. What do you think?
The Event airs on Mondays at 9/8C on NBC.
“the event” was not…the event!
I’ve actually been liking The Event so far which is very surprising to me because I didn’t think I would. I was never a fan of Lost or 24 so I didn’t watch the premier, but caught it later On Demand. I think it’s going to get better…so put me down for that $20.00 :)
I was a little bored by the first episode too but still just intrigued enough to tune into the 2nd episode. And, I’m still just barely intrigued enough to keep giving it a chance. But, it is on the bubble for me. The main problem is that it’s all concept, not much on characters.
Well the first episode was a little slow, but the second episode more than made up for it. I think they’re going somewhere, and I’m willing to stick with it.
