I heard of Pioneer One through word of mouth. The reason that I got excited about this project is because it is an independent sci-fi series being distributed via Bittorrent.
From the Pioneer One website:
In the pilot, what first looks like a terrorist act turns out to be a Cold War relic come back to haunt the present. We follow our main characters, a team of Homeland Security agents, as they discover the truth of what’s happened: a forgotten Soviet space mission has returned to Earth, and what it’s brought back will have implications for the entire world. It’s part political drama, part procedural drama, with a tinge of sci-fi. But beyond the initial catalyst, which is fiction, everything has its root in factual events.
Not only is Pioneer One independent and being distributed by unconventional means, it is donation supported. The creators create the series when the donation fund has enough money to produce an episode. Do not confuse Pioneer One with a fan film. Yes, it is budget challenged but the first episode shows a lot of promise. There isn’t a lot of action but the story is compelling enough to stimulate your imagination. The Soviet mission, the artifact and the government involvement give this series an X-Files feel but it is original enough to not feel like a rip off. They are keeping the series rooted in drama with a science fiction feel that is based on historical fact. Check it out below to decide for yourself.
