I like Lost. I think it is a ground-breaking show. It has tested the patience of the audience and pushed entertainment further than any other show to date. I guess it’s only human to want to re-create that type of success.
The problem that I have with Flash Forward is that it is too much like Lost. Though it is a different situation, the first episode of Flash Forward practically copies Lost scene for scene. Seemingly normal day, something catastrophic happens that ends in chaos with a whole bunch of frantic, injured people running around. A male, hero lead tries to save the day. A random animal that doesn’t belong in the situation is thrown in for good measure. The only difference is that it doesn’t take seasons to figure out that there is a conspiracy, it happens all in the first episode.
The addition of Lost‘s Penny Widmore (Sonya Walger) and Charlie Pace (Dominic Monaghan) doesn’t help matters. In fact, their appearance made the separation of Lost from Flash Forward nearly impossible for me. I try to watch all shows with zero expectations. It hurt me this time around because I didn’t expect the writers to strong-arm us with Lost‘s technique and style. It takes something away from Lost too.
So I won’t be writing a blog post every week whining about how much I don’t like Flash Forward, I’ll just spare everyone and not watch the show. I really wanted to like this show but I’m left feeling underwhelmed and disappointed.
…and the kangaroo make this show science fiction!!!!
