The last shuttle launch is the definition of bittersweet. I’m not well versed in NASA’s politics, nor do I fully understand why this is the last shuttle mission. What I do know is that I’m sad about this. If it is a decision to help the economy, I guess it’s the right thing to do. If it is because of mismanagement, it’s a crying shame. I thought we would have had a space station or a colony on the moon by now. Of course I also thought we’d have flying cars by now.

Commercial space travel is supposed to fill the void… whatever. I’ll continue to donate to space foundations and do what I can.

On the day on the event, I was there virtually for the last shuttle launch using NASA’s iPad app. The pictures in this post are screen grabs from the app. I got some really great shots.

They are up there now doing their last bit of business before they return for the final time.
