Hawaii Five-0 has to be one of my favorite new shows this fall. It’s fun and easy action combined with a touch of self-aware campiness. The stories are light and the heroes haven’t totally saved the day, they most certainly blew something up or kicked some ass.
I knew Daniel Dae Kim from Lost and Grace ParkĀ from Battlestar Galactica would be on the show butĀ didn’t realize that Alex O’Loughlin from Moonlight would be the star of the show! It scared me a bit because Moonlight was… well… not really good. People seem not to mind him as Steve McGarret though. I’m glad because I adore him and think he’s gorgeous! Last but not least is Scott Caan from Entourage, son of James Caan and our new Danno! I love this guy. Everything he says is funny. I love his hair, I love his soft side but most of all I love his rants with Steve the most.
The best thing that this show has done for itself was keep the original theme song. Another musical goodie is that they used Cypress Hill’s new album as the soundtrack in the pilot. The music plus James Marsters and William Sadler in the pilot drew in me and 14.20 other viewers. Hawaii Five-0‘s ratings have slipped to 10.59 viewers since the premiere but it has been picked up for a full season!
Hawaii Five-0 airs Monday nights at 10/9c on CBS.
Surprisingly, I like Hawaii Five-0 too. I’m debating how long I’ll watch though, as I’m not much of the procedural cop drama type of person. Unless the show does super well with character development and/or starts an ongoing story arc, I’m afraid the newness may wear off (as it already is, a little bit).
I’m surprised you didn’t like Moonlight. Didn’t you mention that in a recent podcast? It had a few dud episodes, but I thought it had potential and was really starting to get good near its end. Did you stick with it long enough to see episode 11, “Love Lasts Forever”? That episode was pretty impressive. With the exception of some cheesy car chase scenes, the writing, acting, directing, and editing were all top notch in the 2nd half of that episode.
Back to HF0… I was really impressed with the stunts in the first few episodes. I agree about the chemistry between Steve & Danno. Hopefully, we’ll get to see good development from Chin and Kono too. Once the show is fully developed, I’d be nice to see a fifth member or at least some frequent support characters. Oh, and Scott Caan also played Turk Malloy, one of the Mormon brothers, in the Ocean’s Trilogy.
